You who try to justify your cruelty by law, by policy, by Scripture twisted into chains You who bomb the innocent and call it peace, who deport the desperate and call it order, who deny care to the sick and call it economics, who lock away the hungry and say they should have tried harder The Lord sees you.
You who wear the cross but do not carry it, who invoke Jesus’ name while mocking His teachings, who preach morality but deny mercy The Lord hears the cry of the oppressed and it rises like incense against you.
You legislate against love. You hoard wealth while children starve. You quote commandments but forget the poor. You outlaw compassion and worship power. You are not defending God. You are defending empire.
And the prophets warned us
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who trade righteousness for privilege and justice for political gain.
Faith without love is a lie. Worship without mercy is noise. And cruelty, no matter how well-dressed, is an abomination in the sight of the Lord.
But to you who still have ears to hear: Repent. Turn back. Tear down your idols. Return to love. Return to Christ. Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Cruelty is never holy. Only love saves.

There is a door on Bedford Street with no sign. It has never had one. For a hundred years, you had to already know it was there. To find Chumley’s, you needed to be initiated — told by a friend, a lover, a fellow traveler of the night. This was not a place that advertised…
