“Who has learned your counsel, unless you have given wisdom and sent your holy spirit from on high?” —Wisdom 9:17
There are days when even the most capable among us feel uncertain. When the weight of responsibility, the noise of the world, or the complexity of our own hearts leaves us aching for clarity. That’s where Solomon stood when he offered this prayer—not at the height of his power, but at the edge of his vulnerability.
He was a king, yes. But he was also just a mortal. And he knew: leadership without wisdom is blind.
In this prayer, Solomon doesn’t ask for more strength, wealth, or influence. He asks for Wisdom—holy Wisdom that has been with God since the beginning of time, the same Spirit that hovered over creation, the same Light that guided Israel through the wilderness.
Because when life becomes a maze of choices, grief, or moral complexity, Wisdom is what steadies our feet. Not cleverness. Not charisma. Not even experience.
But Wisdom, rooted in God’s love, God’s justice, and God’s presence.
This kind of Wisdom doesn’t shout; it whispers. It doesn’t dominate; it guides. And it never arrives with fanfare, but always with faithfulness.
Today, you may be facing a decision, a conversation, a situation you can’t control. You may feel overwhelmed by the noise of the world or burdened by grief or uncertainty. Let Solomon’s prayer be your own: God, I don’t know the way forward. But I trust that You do. Send me Wisdom. Send me your Spirit. And I will follow.
Prayer: Holy Wisdom, You were with God when the world began, and You are with us now. Come close. Whisper clarity where there is confusion, calm where there is fear, and courage where there is hesitation. Teach us to lead with love, to speak with grace, to wait with patience, and to act with holy purpose. May every step we take today be lit by your light. Amen.
Frozen in fear, I stand so still,My heart feels numb, my soul is chill,The darkness grips, I cannot fight,I long for warmth, for guiding light. But in the midst of my despair,A glimmer shines, a hope so rare,A voice that whispers, “Do not fear,For I am with you, I am near.” I turn my gaze,…

Originally published: May 23, 2025 This morning I read a heartbreaking report. Across the country, families and guardians are receiving phone calls and letters from nursing homes. The message is clear and alarming: if Medicaid is cut, they must begin to make alternate arrangements for their loved ones. The quiet, almost whispered implication is devastating,…
Inspired by Ecclesiasticus 45:6–16 & Luke 19:41–48 I stood in the ash of a broken city,my hands lifted like cracked branchesstill reaching for rain. And He, Christ, not high on a thronebut bending low above the ruinwept. He did not weep as kings do,with detachment or distance. He wept like a fatherwatching his son bleed out in a school…
Matthew 5:13-20 I have struggled to sit and write this week, not for any lack of what to say, but of a lack of courage to be vulnerable. I attempted to silence the spirit that is moving within me, perhaps out of fear. Even as priest, I am still very human and the anticipation of…
