There are moments in life when the waters rise so high we fear we will drown. When injustice surges, cruelty marches forward, and the ones in power seem untouchable. When we feel small, overlooked, or pushed to the margins. These are the Egypt moments—when the systems and spirits that enslave feel like they will never let go.
But the book of Wisdom reminds us: God not only sees, but acts.
In Wisdom 19, we remember the holy story of deliverance, where the mighty sea became a smooth plain and raging waves stood still. The oppressors who had pursued with arrogance were swallowed by their own pride, while the vulnerable were led gently, like sheep through the wilderness.
And here’s the miracle:
Even the laws of nature bent to God’s will to protect the beloved.
Fire held back. Water yielded. Creation stood still to let liberation walk through.
This ancient truth has everything to say to us now.
When we’re facing political cruelty, systemic injustice, or personal heartache, God is not far off. God is still parting seas. Still softening hard paths. Still transforming the ordinary into holy highways of deliverance.
Our world today groans under the weight of war, displacement, ecological collapse, and deep social division. Many feel forgotten those in nursing homes, on our streets, in broken families, or detained at borders. But God remembers them. God remembers us.
And God’s Wisdom, which once hovered over the chaos and brought forth light, is still working. It’s still guiding us. It’s still raising up justice in unlikely places, still making a way where there is no way.
So when you feel like you’re standing at the edge of the Red Sea with Pharaoh behind you, remember this:
God parts seas.
God still delivers.
And even when the wind rises and the water churns you are not alone.
Let us walk forward, not in fear but in faith, trusting that creation itself will respond to God’s love and that justice is always on the move.
